The health triangle is an indicator of your overall health. There are three sides of health triangle.
The majority of people can identify one or two sides of the health triangle. Can you identify all three sides?
If not, this section will focus on the health triangle and why all three parties must be balanced in order to achieve overall well-being.
What Is Health Triangle?
The health triangle, also called the health triangle, maybe a life of our body’s overall wellbeing. It’s a representation of your body’s potency and balance.
The health triangle consists of three sides that contribute to your overall health. Once you are at the best state, all three are in a balanced state and your body is at its best.
What Are The Three Sides Of Health Triangle?
The health triangle is made up of three sides; each one contributes to your total health:
- Mental Health
- Physical Health
- Social Health
Physical health is well-known, and some may even be aware of mental health, but did you know there is also social health?
I had only ever heard of physical health as a child. It didn’t matter if it was at school or at home. I was solely taught that maintaining our health meant prioritizing nutrition, exercise, and sleep.
I had heard a little about mental health here and there, but it had never really resonated with me, and social health was something utterly new to me.
What Is Mental Health?
Mental health is concerned with your thoughts, emotions, and feelings. Mental health includes stress, worry, and negative emotions like anger. It refers to your ability to deal with the stress and issues that come with everyday living.
Accepting and being happy about whom you are is also crucial for your mental health. Being mentally healthy requires being conscious of your thoughts, feelings, and behavior.
You can acquire and develop new abilities if you have good mental health. Individual growth is aided by the development of skills, actions, and knowledge. Self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-perception all improve as a result of learning.
What Is Physical Health?
Physical health determines your body’s ability to perform naturally and how well it manages your ability to do.
This includes your diet and nutrition, as well as receiving enough physical activity or exercise and getting enough sleep to recharge for the following day.
Other things that you may not be aware of include your hygiene; brushing your teeth, keeping your body and hair clean, and maintaining all of your physical health.
What Is Social Health?
Social health includes our interactions with others. It could be family, friends, or peers, as well as coworkers. The way a person relates to other people in their environment is measured by social health.
It includes their ability to communicate, care for others, seek and provide assistance, and form and maintain relationships. These connections might happen at home, school, job, or during social occasions.
Why Health Triangle Is Important?
The health triangle is a tool for assessing your overall health. Each of the three components is important to your overall health and must be balanced.
The health triangle’s three sides are all connected. When one is out of balance, the other two will suffer as well. As a result, those with chronic health difficulties are more likely to acquire mental health concerns like anxiety and depression.
You are not alone in believing that physical health was the only thing that counted. This is something I am also guilty of. We learned to stay healthy by focusing solely on nutrition and exercise, whether from school or the media.
However, your emotional and social health has an equal impact on your overall health. Any of the three components of health can have an impact on the other two.
What Affects Your Health Triangle
There are various health determinants. Some factors, such as genetics, are far from your control. Some are under your direct control, such as your behavior.
Don’t get caught up in the ones over which you have no control. Concentrate on what you can change to improve your health. Here is a list of health determinants:
1. Biological and Genetical
- Inherited conditions are a major determinant of health and can shape a person’s biological responses throughout their life.
- Inequality based on age and gender can result in income disparities and differential access to health care.
2. The environment
- Access to health care and other health-related services
- Access to nutritious food and safe drinking water
- Satisfactory living conditions
- Having a consistent source of income to meet your needs
- Attitudes toward illness, pain, and adversity
- Diet perception, body image, and beliefs
- Exercising personal self-care
- Consuming a nutritious diet
- Getting regular physical activity
- Avoiding high-risk activities such as smoking and drinking alcohol
- Fitness trackers can give you information and motivate you to be more active.
- Eye strain can result from excessive use of technology (headaches and dry eyes)
- The use of electronic devices will lead to sleep issues and different mental health problems.
How Your Health Triangle Becomes Unbalances
Consider the health triangle to be a structure. It has three pillars: physical, mental, and social health. The three sides of the health triangle are equal when it is balanced, and the structure retains its triangular shape.
When one of the triangle’s sides weakens, the entire structure becomes unstable. As a result, when one side of the health triangle is neglected, the other side suffers.
When one side is neglected and weakened, you are more likely to experience health problems in the other two states.
To maintain the balance of our health triangle, we must work on improving all three aspects of health, not just one or two. We can achieve overall wellness by engaging in activities that benefit all three.
How To Maintain a Balanced Health Triangle
Focus on the area that needs the most improvement after identifying where you are lacking from the health triangle assessment.
Each of the three sides plays an equal role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a balanced health triangle.
If you’ve been focusing solely on your physical well-being, think about improving your mental and social well-being as well.
Maintain Mental Health
School, work, and relationship stress can all contribute to poor mental health. As a result, it is critical to learn healthy ways to cope with stress. Here are some ideas for improving your mental health:
Mental Illnesses Should Be Taken Seriously
It is critical to treat mental illnesses in the same way that physical illnesses are treated. Ask friends and family for assistance, and if necessary, seek professional assistance.
Increase Your Resilience
Increase resilience by prioritizing connections, cultivating healthy self-esteem, and reducing shame.
Increase your awareness of your thoughts and emotions, and practice self-care by controlling your emotions and behaviors.
This can include journaling your thoughts, talking about your emotions, and confronting stressful or anxious situations.
Mindfulness practice can help to calm and focus your thoughts. A more positive mindset is achieved by increasing awareness, being more open and accepting, and being present in the moment.
Engaging in hobbies and activities that you enjoy can help you tap into one of the four happiness chemicals.
Spending time outside, being creative, or simply listening to music are a few examples.
Exercise not only has physical benefits, but it can also help to relieve stress, anxiety, and tension.
Yoga, stretching, or your favorite physical activity can all be beneficial.
Create a Support Network
Create a positive support network of friends and family who can help, guide, or simply enjoy life with you.
Maintain Physical Health
Maintaining your physical health entails a variety of factors. Nutrition and diet, physical activity, hygiene, and even sleep are all part of this. Here are some ideas to help you improve your physical health:
Diet and Nutrition
A proper healthy diet is essential for energy and growth. This strengthens your immune system, making you less likely to become ill.
Women require 9-12 cups of fluids per day, while men require 11-15 cups. Staying hydrated keeps your body running smoothly and improves your sleep quality.
Hydration also helps to regulate body temperature, keeps you calm, cleanses toxins from your body fluids, and regulates mood.
Regular physical activity is essential for leading a healthy lifestyle. It is recommended that you should exercise for 30 minutes per day. It doesn’t have to be a strenuous workout; simply going for a walk can be beneficial.
Also, try to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Taking regular breaks to get up from your desk and walk to get a drink or use the restroom can help a lot.
Sleeping 7-9 hours on average will provide your body with the rest it requires. Good sleeping habits can be maintained by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.
Avoid doing things that will keep you awake before bedtime, such as using electronic devices.
Showering and washing your hands contribute to good hygiene. It helps to keep your body clean and reduces the spread of germs.
Brush Your Teeth
Brush and floss your teeth twice every day to stay your teeth healthy. This aids in the maintenance of your oral hygiene and the prevention of gum disease.
If you’re going to be outside, protect your skin by wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen protects your skin, reduces the risk of skin cancer, and delays the aging process.
Regular doctor’s visits help to ensure your overall health. Typically, the doctor will monitor blood pressure, physical examinations, and any other signs of good health.
Maintain Social Health
Families should collaborate to reduce stress and negativity. Friendships that are strong and supportive will boost happiness, self-esteem, and reduce stress. Here are some ideas for improving your social health:
Create a Support Network
Creating a positive network of friends and family. A caring, loving, responsible, and balanced relationship can benefit your social health.
Bond Over Common Interest
Join a club or community that shares a shared interest or activity to meet new people. Developing ties with others who share similar interests is an excellent method to socialize.
When asked to social occasions, say yes or extend an invitation to your friends and family. Socializing can help you acquire confidence and shield you from the negative consequences of stress.
Volunteer in your community to get more involved. Volunteering allows you to interact with the community, create relationships, is good for your mind and body, and may lead to new career opportunities.
